We are excited to start the 2016 season here on Squam Lake! With the winter behind us, spring is in full swing, and it is the time of year to start thinking summer! The Squam Lake MarketPlace Crew has been ordering, cleaning, setting up, and we have opened our doors once again to welcome back locals and visitors alike.
We are excited to showcase all the new and fun things we have discovered during these past few months. The crew has been busy traveling to trade shows, food shows, and holding tastings to sample new potential products and recipes for the store. We can’t wait to showcase all of the unique and delicious additions, along with the customer favorites you already expect. Don’t Worry, Tuna Tuesday isn’t going anywhere and the ice cream sandwich case will always be full; There may even be a few new flavor combinations for you to try this year!
It is an exciting time of year for our team to come together again and “show and tell” you what we have been hard at work on. We look forward to seeing all those wonderful smiles walk through our doors! We hope you will enjoy seeing some familiar faces smiling back along with some fantastic new members of the team. The smell of coffee and our homemade baked treats will be waiting for you every morning! From our new beer and wine selections, deli items, gifts, and packaged goods, there will definitely be a new favorite for you to discover!
If you’re looking for an expertly crafted morning latte, a place to grab a quick (or extended) lunch in Holderness, or if you’re lucky enough to be staying at the Squam Lake Inn for an early spring getaway, make sure to walk down the street for a visit!
One of the questions we hear most often around Squam Lake Inn is “What are the best hikes in the Lakes Region?” While it’s definitely a matter of personal preference and ability (our staff debated this topic spiritedly for quite some time), we think there are amazing hikes for any level only a few minutes from here in Holderness, around Squam Lake & beyond. Here is our vote for the top five hikes in the Lakes Region:
- West Rattlesnake, Holderness, NH – A 10 minute drive from the Inn, this short 30 minute ascent is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy an easy hike with a stunning view of Squam Lake. We especially recommend this hike at sunset or sunrise; The warm, peaceful colors reflecting off the water is a site to see.
- Five Finger Point, Holderness, NH – Connected to West and East Rattlesnake trails, this short enjoyable hike loops you around the Five Finger Point peninsula. End up shoreline with breathtaking views of Squam Lake.
- Chamberlain Reynolds Forest, Holderness, NH – This is not considered a hike, but it is our favorite nature walk in the region. This is perfect for anyone who is looking to avoid a strenuous climb. This 157 acre forest is covered with trails leading to and around the shores of Squam Lake. The Squam Lakes Association beautifully maintains 3.5 miles of trails including a boardwalk through the wetlands, with access to several small, secluded beaches.
- Mt. Morgan/Mt. Percival, Holderness, NH – The Mt. Morgan and Mt. Percival loop is a local favorite. With ladders to climb and caves to trek through, this moderate hike is a wonderful experience that offers spectacular views of the lakes and mountains.
- Red Hill, Moultonborough, NH – A moderate hike with great views of Squam Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee. At the summit you will find a fire tower and a warden’s cabin. Brave souls have been known to climb the fire tower, providing stunning panoramic views of both Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake!
The Lakes Region offers many hikes of all levels for anyone looking to enjoy the great outdoors. We think Squam Lake Inn is a pretty special place that provides a wonderful place to stay and fantastic dining, but we believe that getting outside and experiencing what the area has to offer is what makes this area truly magical. From the wildlife, to the picturesque views, to meeting fellow hikers on the trails, these five Lakes Region hikes will live up to your expectations and more. The majestic mountains and calming waters are waiting for you to discover them.

The wonderful thing about the hospitality business is the unlimited possibilities of discovering, learning and evolving. In that order. Whether it pertains to decor, presentation, design, food, or in this case wine. The crew at the Squam Lake Inn and Squam Lake MarketPlace never settle and we never offer the same thing year after year. We appreciate innovation and we love cutting edge. We admire quality products and even better service. We love fresh food and, as they say in New England, we love wicked good wine.
Now we get to discover first hand what Napa Valley has to offer. The rolling vineyards, the rich grapes, and the creative wine makers. A few years ago we were away from home and I offered to prepare Thanksgiving dinner for my family. I thought, “This will be fun.” I will do the turkey and some sides and everyone else can bring a dish. It did not go quite as planned for a couple of reasons. I was on vacation and did not really want to lose a day in the kitchen, and it turns out my family did not want to make a single dish either! So I decided to try a “ready to go” Thanksgiving. I was extraordinarily skeptical of the pre-made food options, and I waffled in the store multiple times. I must of said, “I’ll just make the potatoes” a dozen times and “no way this is going to taste good!” two dozen more!
How did it turn out…one of the best Thanksgivings ever! We cooked the turkey, reheated the sides, plated them in beautiful serving dishes and welcomed our family into our rental home. Totally stress free and the food measured up too!
The Squam Lake Market Place is very excited to offer a delicious, traditional, ready to go Thanksgiving dinner for your family and friends. Thanksgiving Simplified! Minimize the stress and select an entire meal, or you can customize your meal from classic Thanksgiving side dishes or some other more adventurous options. We do all the prep work and you just heat and serve.
Choose from a pre-cooked turkey or a ready to roast, all natural fresh turkey from Vermont. Both turkey options have been brined, and all the trimmings are fully cooked and ready to be warmed with simple instructions included. If you just need a turkey or a few additional appetizers, side items, or desserts, we can do that too! All items are available a la carte.
Take a look at our Squam Lake Market Place Thanksgiving Menu and call 603-968-8588 or stop by the Squam Lake MarketPlace to place your order today! Act quickly as all orders must be placed no later than Sunday, November 16th for pick up on Wednesday, November 26th between 11am-5pm.
Even though we’ve had an amazing summer here at our Squam Lake B&B, we can’t help but get downright giddy about fall. There’s nothing quite as brilliant as the fall foliage in New Hampshire and we love celebrating this spectacular display year after year.
This fall if you stay at our New Hampshire Bed & Breakfast, you’ll be able to choose from three different packages that all include a dining credit, picnic lunch and more. All you have to do is choose which level of adventure you’re up for and be on your way!
Are you a thrill seeker, adventurous or an admirer? We have a package for you! Check them out.
