Drive towards Lake Winnipesaukee and stop at the Moultonborough Country Store since 1781. An old fashioned soda and pickle from the barrel will make you feel like you stepped back in time.
Visit the mansioned built by Thomas Plant (1859-1941) who made his fortune in the shoe manufacturing industry. Named the Castle in the Clouds, the estate is surrounded by beautiful gardens, waterfalls and the views are spectacular. Our guests agree, it is worth a stop.
Drive over to Wolfeboro, the oldest resort town in America. It has a wonderful Main Street feel with lots of restaurants and shops to explore all overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee.
Continue south to Alton Bay and back up towards Meredith to continue the loop around the big lake, Winnipesaukee. Stop along the way and enjoy what the day brings.
Drive back to the Squam Lake Inn and before heading to your room; stop by the dining room for a freshly baked cookie of the day and a cup of tea. Enjoy out on our covered porch overlooking the gardens, town and Mt. Fayal.
