There is simply no bad time for a getaway. We have guests who enjoy their stays at our Holderness, NH bed and breakfast year-round. However, some seasons have a little extra special magic to them. That’s why we think September is one of the absolute best times to visit us and enjoy a New Hampshire getaway of your own. Holderness is stunningly beautiful and truly majestic and peaceful during this time of year. Wondering why? Here are five reasons.

No Crowds

Vacationing in September means you will get to enjoy the inn, the lake, nearby restaurants and attractions, and more without the crowds. Leaf-peepers will flock to the area for peak foliage viewing in early October and summer vacationers have already gone home. Your own getaway will be even more your own in September.

Perfect Swimming Weather

In September, the sun is a little less intense than it has been all summer. You’ll find you may need a little less sunscreen and with incredibly comfortable temperatures, you’ll have the energy to stay outside and in the water longer, soaking up the last golden rays of summer and welcoming the start of fall. Take advantage of this wonderful month of transition!

Summer & Fall Activities

September is a versatile month when it comes to fun things to do. Enjoy summer favorites on Squam Lake like boat tours, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, and more. PLUS start to enjoy classic fall fun as well like hiking and zip-lining amongst the early foliage. Our fall foliage specials are available starting September 1st. Take advantage of these special, limited-time offers while you can!

Comfortable & Cozy Lodging

Each and every one of our rooms is clean, comfortable, and relaxing. It’s the perfect place to find respite after a day in the sun, on the water, or exploring our favorite little town. In September, enjoy waking up to the warm sun as it slowly rises and cozy evenings by the fire. September is not too hot, not too cold, but just perfect for having every second of your stay be enjoyable.

Great Food

It’s always fun when a transition in the weather means a transition into different foods. The changing seasons and changing menus are two of the best reasons to enjoy all four seasons here in New England! Wake up to a hot cup of coffee; the perfect complement to our crisp New England mornings. Have some delicious seafood for lunch while exploring our town of Holderness (don’t forget an ice-cream treat on those warm afternoons).  And, don’t miss a savory dinner at our restaurant with our new fall menu (coming September 13th).
